Eureka 6984A Power Team HEPA Canister Home-Cleaning System
This two-part home cleaning system from Eureka combines the power of a bag canister with the ease of a lightweight vacuum. The nozzle (the part that you push around) is light and maneuverable, with a looped handle, a headlight, and thumb-controlled buttons. Eureka builds in several options, including two power levels, two speed levels, and the capacity for carpets or bare floors. The system’s nozzle base features a foot-controlled handle release and a height adjustment control for different floor types. You can also use the nozzle without the standing extension for cleaning up windowsills or high surfaces.
A boon for allergy sufferers, the HEPA filtration system on this 12-amp machine filters both intake and exhaust air, trapping particles 75 times smaller than the diameter of a human hair. The HEPA filter itself is stored in the wide end of the canister, which releases easily for the recommended twice-yearly replacement. The auto-rewind cord feature on this machine, as well as the handy carrying handle, wide dust-bag hatch, and bag-full indicator light, are all great features. As for storage, you can’t exactly stash it in a drawer, but the canister does stand up on its heel for reduced space. Better yet, the accessories are stowed in an on-board compartment. They include a crevice tool, a dusting brush, and an upholstery attachment. –Emily Bedard

Eureka 6984A Power Team HEPA Canister Home-Cleaning System Reviews
Same problems!!!
I thought maybe my machine had a unique problem, but it is the same as everyone else’s. Burning smell, belt constantly breaking and finally, the melting end pieces. I took it to an authorized repair place and was charged for a new roller even though it is the design that is obviously flawed. The repairman said the problem is that I am vacuuming up too must hair and the solution is to not vacuum up so much hair. Unreal! Eureka refuses to back up their product. By the way, I did some extensive research myself and spent the extra money on something a little better that average, the only reason to buy this machine is the power head and it is critically flawed. Any machine can have good suction, just buy a shop vac for a lot less money, but without the power head, this unit is just a super expensive dust broom.
I hate this vacuum
It is big and bulky to pull around, the hose gets twisted, the wand will not stay up and broke. It seems to vacuum okay but I absolutely hate using it. I’m exhausted by the time Im done. We have hardwood floors and this was the top recomended product. Waste of a lot of money.
Totally agree with other 1 star reviews
It is just as all the other reviews with one star say. I thought when I first read the reviews last year they were good. Maybe I was looking at something else??? Anyway, I have had mine a little over a year and I can tell you honestly it is nothing but trouble every time. It is defective in my opinion, and the worst workmanship or design. When trying to change the wands for the bare floor tool or short to disengage was so difficult I hurt my wrists. Thought it was from arthritis until my husband tried and had the same problem. We purchased another set of wands and they were just as bad. Plus the upright does not stay on unless you hold it twisted a certain way, and does smell like something is burning. DO NOT BUY THIS UNLESS YOU LIKE ENDLESS HASSLES!
Promising at first, quick decline
At first, we were very pleased with the performance of this vacuum, however…
We’ve owned ours for over a year and have no end of problems with the vacuum head band stretching to the point the brush won’t rotate properly. The band requires replacement twice a month (according to the vac shop, this is a common problem and the reason they wouldn’t sell the model). We’ve had the head in twice for repairs already. Our house is predominantly wood floors with one room of nearly flat carpet pile–not a real challenge for a vacuum, especially with no kids. The power brush was a great attachment at first, but now screeches like a banshee unless held in a very particular position. It still works very well, but what a hassle.
Both the bands and the bags ($$) can only be purchased at two stores in our area, both a good 30-minute drive from home. I had researched this vacuum and chosen it after a lot of thought. The only thing I can say now is that I should have concentrated my research on people who had tested the machine for a longer length of time. What a huge disappointment, irritation and waste of my money.
It’s really a pretty good machine
I’ve read lots of negative reviews and I have to say I disagree. I did a heck of a lot of research before purchasing the Eureka 6984. I was first inclined to look at the Rainbow and felt I was settling for less. I even turned to the European models and my conclusion was that they were expensive, difficult to repair, and not too much better than the Eureka. I asked A LOT of experts and I got only positive responses. I think the suction on the vacuum is incredible. I was told by an objective seller that the suction is equivalent to the Rainbow. Yes, I hate changing the bags so often, and I’m surprised at how often I have to change the bags, but this only proves that there is great suction. I’ve also researched online correct vacuuming techniques. The advice suggests vacuuming twice a week and changing ANY bag for ANY vacuum when it is half full. It is less effective otherwise. Okay, so right, who vacuums that often and changes bags that often? My impression is that I find all that dirt so often because I don’t vacuum enough (3 kids and a dog live here!). I also could change the bag more often. My whole purpose of buying the Eureka 6984 was to help eliminate allergens from my house. I’ve done lots of experiments. I’ve vacuumed my living room and have emptied the bag. I’ve then vacuumed in the same room and was surprised to find even more dog hair (an experiment the door to door sales people would try to argue that only their machine could do). I’ve also put a cloth over the nozel and placed the nozel flat against both the carpet and the sofa. I’ve found considerable sand in the cloth. Another trick door to door sales people do to prove their machines superior. Yes, it is not easy to manipulate around the house and I have pined over the ease and maneuvarabilily of the Miele and Sebo. But my philosophy is that this vacuum was within my budget and if my goal was to bring texture back to my carpet and reduce allergens in the air, this vacuum has done the trick. I AM dusting less – something I didn’t believe when other vacuum cleaner owners attested to. I think it’s a great purchase, a great machine, a great value and a reputable company. I do believe you need to take care of your vacuum cleaner. Objective websites defining best vacuuming techniques repeated this over and over again in relation to ALL brands and types.
