The world’s only true cyclonic vacuum, generating 100,000 g of centrifugal force and pulling dirt into an indestructible canister made from the same material used for crash helmets. Named for both its power and its ruthless approach to pet hair problems, the Dyson DC07 Animal upright is a piece of engineering wizardry designed by James Dyson, the inventor of cyclonic vacuums. The large, transparent collection cup is easy to check and empties tidily–pop it off, hold it over a trash bin, and pull the trigger to release dirt without having to touch it. The DC07 also comes equipped with a multipart filtration system to improve overall air quality in the home. The HEPA filter, measuring 412 square inches in surface area, traps microscopic particulates and allerg. Expertly built, the filter is designed to last the lifetime of the machine.
Suitable for bare floors and carpets, the Dyson upright features a 14-inch cleaning path and edge-cleaning bristles. A foot pedal switches off the brush roll for bare floors, and the nozzle automatically adjusts for various carpet heights. For above-floor cleaning, the vacuum also comes with a cleverly stowed, 17-foot quick-release hose with a reversible extension-wand handle. Onboard accessories include a crevice tool, a dusting brush, an upholstery attachment, and the Animal turbo tool. Designed for lint and stubborn pet hair, the turbo tool features an air-powered brush bar to extract hair from furniture, stairs, pet beds, cars, and other tight spaces.
Made from the same material used in crash helmets, the vacuum is unquestionably durable. Plus, the design only puts 4 pounds of weight on the handle, so pushing and turning is easy. I clean homes for a living and use many different types of vacs. But last year, for my own home, I purchased the purple Animal Dyson and find it superior. Many uprights scatter dirt on bare floors, but not this one and it’s cleaner than using a broom. We have a dog with long hair and a cat and I’m no longer frustrated with pet hair remaining on the carpet. I love being able to see the dirt in the resevoir and then easily empty it. It is so powerful! AND you can leave the vac at the bottom of the stairs and clean all the way to the top step. Do check the beater bar if you’ve long hair pets. I’ve had to cut off excess fur.
Can’t believe how much it picks up, that I never even SAW!
Purchased this reconditioned purple Animal from Amazon.com recently and I am thrilled with it! I expected amazing suction and performance, because that’s what all the hype is about, and it has not let me down. Here are some things I was not necessarily expecting:
~It is lighter than my old Eureka or Hoover or Dirt Devil. Pushes easily and smoothly.
~Quieter than my other vacuums, too. I saw some reviewers thought they were loud, but I actually found it to be quite quiet compared to other vacs I’ve had (which have mostly been purchased at large discount stores).
~I really like how the head of the vacuum stays down no matter how much you tilt the pushing arm. This is especially helpful if you have children do some of your vacuuming. With my other vacs, shorter children had a hard time keeping the head in contact with the floor so that they could do an adequate job (I know, mean mom who makes her little kids vacuum!). The Dyson solves that.
~On board tools (well, most of them are on board anyway) are easy to use and store.
The only reason I did not give it 5 stars is because I sometimes have trouble with the little button you push to tip the handle back so you can begin vacuuming. I often have to fiddle with it, using one hand to hold down the front while I push the button. Also, if I push it incorrectly, it seems to loosen the hose it is attached to, and then I have to put that back on. This is only a minor inconvenience, but it is worth mentioning. My machine is a reconditioned one, so perhaps this has something to do with it.
We have a Welsh Corgi and 2 cats and this vacuum has already shown itself to be worth it in terms of keeping the house clean. I’m glad I bought it!
I got stupid-happy over this vacuum!
I got my reconditioned Dyson Animal 07 about six months ago. I LOVE this vacuum! Not only is it great on my carpet, but it makes other chores so easy. I don’t sweep my hard floors anymore, I use the Dyson. I never used to dust…hated it. But, just this week, I cleaned the dust off my entertainment center, TV, cable box, etc. with my Dyson’s brush attachment. It’s easy to clean the dust off my ceiling fan blades now, because the wand that comes with the hose gives me such long reach. My stairs used to almost never get cleaned….now I vacuum them regularly, because my Dyson makes it so easy. The long flexible hose, which is not fragile, gives me enough reach to clean the entire bottom half of the stairway up to the landing while the main unit is still on the first floor. Then I take the Dyson up to the landing and do the top half! And the pet hair attachment….oh I love that thing. I have dark blue couches and a dog with long, coarse WHITE hair. You can imagine how bad that looks. The pet hair attachment picks up all that hair with minumum effort. I love the fact that I can go straight from vacuuming my carpet to using the hose without having to turn off the machine or connect anything. It’s all right there….ready to go. (You do have to attach the pet hair or low-reach tools separately, but you don’t have to turn off the machine. And the standard hose, wand, and tools are right there on the vacuum, ready for use.) The man who designed this machine is truly a genius, and he has my lasting gratitude. I HATE housework, and this has really made my life easier. Be prepared, though….the first time you clean your house with this thing, you are going to be saying, “Ugh! THAT was in my carpet?!”
Suction Power – Quicker Cleaning results
Okay, I stumbled onto this in a store on clearance, so it cost less than you can imagine, so I got it. We got a puppy, and my old Hoover (nothing spectacular or expensive at all) wasn’t doing the job anymore. I got the Dyson Animal (DC07) home, and first did the basement floors (hadn’t been vacuumed in months). That was absolutely amazingly fun. The reason I’d stopped vacuuming them is it took too long to get everything up. Not so with this one. But, I had to empty it several times for the amount of dirt that had built up (heavy traffic from gardenning). So, I did the upstairs which I vacuum once to twice a week on a regular basis (including all furniture). That was another amazing thing. It went FAST. And, while not as much to pick up, it picked up everything. Knowing what it does, I now have relatives who want to buy one even at regular price, so I’m pointing them towards Amazon’s refurbished ones.
I would recommend this to anyone as a vacuum that can do it all. I found the attachments can go on either end of the hose (this is nice if you are doing something close to the vacuum with it). But, I was able to do the stairs without moving the vacuum once. And, the vacuum is light weight, easy to roll, which is wonderful. Finally … it is quieter than my Hoover Vac by far. I’ve heard quieter (Kirby for instance) … but this is wonderful. The 35 foot hose made it easier to do areas without having to constantly move the cord to a new outlet.
So, bang for buck … I think Dyson is worth every penny even at full price, but moreso at Refurbished prices on Amazon.
Buy it for your husband!!
My wife bought me this vacuum for my birthday — I think mostly as a gag gift. To make a long story short I got stuck with vacuuming and cleaning the shower — don’t ask me why, marriage is a funny thing. Anyway, I was always in trouble because I hated our vacuum — it was a Dirt Devil that sounded like a F-16 taking off every time I turned it on — I don’t think it worked very well either — I would run over stuff and it didn’t seem to pick things up — so I would run over it again and again with the same result until I finally figured out it was tape or paint or something. Since I didn’t like the vacuum, I rarely used it and when I did I complained and whined. Sometimes I would turn it on and close the door and not vacuum then turn the ball game on — my wife thought I was vacuuming but since it didn’t work very well I didn’t see the harm.
To make a long story short, this new Dyson vacuum is absolutely amazing. It is by far the best vacuum I have ever seen — and used although i haven;t used very many. One reason I like it is that you can actually see all the dirt and other stuff that it has picked up. I know I probably have a pea brain but its fun to see the fruits of your hard labor in the form of dirt, hair, and stale popcorn in that clear plastic bin. Anyway, I now like vacuuming because of the Dyson DC07. I do it once or sometimes twice a week and my wife is happy. I don’t fake vacuum anymore either because the Dyson is fun to use and very effective. Buy this vacuum for your husband — he will enjoy using it and you will enjoy a clean house!! Unfortunately, the Dyson can’t clean the shower — that job still sucks.
